Print A5 (148x210) borderless with canon?

Hi, how to print A5 (148x210) borderless with canon, there is no A5 paper size.
I tried to select custom paper but then borderless mode is disabled.

There is no reason why it can't be printed for example on EPSON the printer allows to print borderless if paper size matches the grooves in printer platen for borderless printing.

So in my case canon should allow landscape paper insertion 210 (same as A4) and be able to print borderless half the height of A4 that is 148mm. Hello Canon are you joking by not allowing users to print what competitor (EPSON) does?

Has anybody got any ideas how to overcome this? I was thinking to use larger paper +3mm than trim it but that makes allot of work to be done by hand.

Youre not alone on this one, Canon have never allowed borderless A5.
It doesnt matter what way you put in your A5 paper the printer wont print it without a border.
Your eider print SRA5 size and trim it yourself, or go out and buy an Epson printer just for that size.
Again theres no reason why Canon do this, but allow you to print A4 and 5x7 borderless..

That's crazy to buy a printer just for one size, well I wonder why Canon never allowed borderless A5. It seems quite logical to me that for some 10x15 or A6 is too small, and A4 a big photo suitable for framing. That leaves A5 a very good size option.

So this is what I've done ... (IP7250, Graphical Image Manipulation Progran - aka GIMP) Load your A5 landscape in the botton (A4) tray. You will need to figure out how to keep the paper still(ish) as the bottom guide (nearest you) does not push far enough in. I used a lego style box that wasn't doing anything else at the time.

(Using GIMP) select the image to print - already sized for A5 landscape. In the print dialogue select the paper as A4 borderless. You can show (using image option tab) where the image will appear on the paper. Push it right to the top.
Select PRINT, and the image will print A5 borderless as required.

This probably works because the paper in the printer is collected at the far end of the tray - no sensor to see how long it is. It won't get confused it there is nothing to print after the A5 landscape. Paper is ejected before that happens.

Works (in test) on plain A5 paper - still waiting for glossy stuff to arrive.

That's a clever workaround. I wonder if it can also be used with other printers with a rear paper feed for photo papers instead of only cassette feed(s)?

Having had a Pro 9500 II where this was not an issue (just printed on A4 and set the margins to 0) we were disappointed that our Pro 10S did not allow us to do the same. We overcame it by unchecking the detect paper size in utility settings. Then to print A5 portrait we just set the left margin to 3.075 cm and the top margin to 0 cm on A4 borderless - hey presto a borderless A5 print.

According to the manual your printer does not "allow" for borderless printing with scaled printing or page layout printing enabled, and, according to some reading of links from Google, when Fine Art paper type selected. A workaround mentioned for Fine Art paper is to choose Matte paper.

Looking at your Pro 10s manual, have you tried printing from the rear tray, as this allows non-standard sizes, with or without using the Extension Slider? I do not have a Pro 10s, so maybe even with the rear paper tray only bordered prints is enforced. Maybe you can manipulate the non-standard size you tell the printer your paper is to "trick" the printer and compensate to make a borderless print once you know the standard border the printer adds to the print.

Only just tried this so have not noticed anything as yet, will monitor it going forwards.

I cut and paste two A5's into one A4.
This can be printer borderless on normal and photo paper.
