My trusty ip5200 has had a cardiac arrest I do believe. Bought a couple of years ago from someone who used it twice and then bought a laser, it was a great little machine. So tonight I turned it on and I'm pretty sure I heard a faint "pop" from deep inside the machine.

So now I have the alternate Orange and Green flashing and a 6500 error.

Assuming I don't find a burnt out capacitor or something obvious on the boards what would be my best bet for a S/H CLI-8 printer to replace it? Something about the same footprint would be good as space is at a premium, and I already have a Pro 9000 MK2 for photos and A3 prints.

S/H CLI-8 printer
What does "S/H" mean?

Canon no longer makes printers that use the CLI-8 cartridges, nor print heads for those printers. You would need to look on Craigslist, eBay or some other used printer marketplace for a CLI-based printer.

The Canon Pro and Maxify series, two very different lines of printers for two very different purposes, are fairly sturdy and in production. You already have a Pro series printer. The Maxify is for small office / home office usage, has large capacity pigment ink cartridges and outstanding print speeds. Text is excellent and water resistant. It may be refilled with aftermarket inks. There is no ability to print on CD/DVD's. It is larger than some inkjets, so check the sizes to see if it conforms to your space. Image quality is decent for what it is but you would use your Pro 9000 for photographs.

Maxify is a good choice, several of us have been using them as a main printer for anything other than photos & CD's

As @The Hat so eloquently put it  the Maxify is actually pretty good for photos but obviously not just up to the same quality as a dedicated photo printer. I'm of the opinion that @The Hat has downgraded his quality criteria for traditional printers since he became addicted to the 3D type :hide

Pretty much he would settle for anything now on paper - a dot matrix would probably do the job :hide
