Is there a way to be sure that a Canon printhead advertised on ebay or elsewhere for about $100 is genuinely Canon especially if the item is coming from Japan? The OEMs are probably made there anyway.

In my search for a QY6-0080 head, I found a common deceitful practise among sellers
claiming "new" or "OEM" and such:

They would frequently display the outer box -and- the foil wrapper enclosing the head.
While the outer box usually displayed the appropriate "Canon" logo, the inner foil wrapper
often did not include the correct logo. When both packaging elements do NOT display
the correct Canon logo, steer very clear.
BOTH packaging elements should show the Canon logo for it to be legitimate.
If the seller's picture(s) show NONE of the packaging, it's a pretty sure bet
they're not offering a fully-new item.
Also, steer FAR AWAY form any seller providing ONLY a picture of the head
unwrapped without clip. That's another fairly sure signal that they're dishonest.

Closely investigate feedback from buyers, also.
Many will state whether they feel it is a genuine OEM or used, refurb, etc.
that they received, and will offer brief comment about why they feel
the way they do.

All of the above narrowed me down to a USA-based seller with %100 positive feedback,
with not a ton of sales, active on eBay for many years, who sold me a truly genuine
QY6-0080 head for around USD$85. Feedback was primarily for Canon printheads,
with some other printer parts mixed in. When I searched feedback of the QY6-0080
specifically, all were positive and all mentioned full function.

Thanks SkedAddled for your tips. There are many who do just show the box and specify "no returns". Would you be willing to provide the ebay seller's name/store? My email if you'd rather go that route - .... Edited:...Moderator...

Of course, Russell.
Seller's name is inkjetprinthead.

12 items listed by seller now, several differenr Canon printhead models.
It's funny - I had ran across inkjetprinthead yesterday but seemed TOO authentic to trust. Thanks - I will order one.:thumbsup

Good luck trying to acquire a QY6-0080 head, because it’s unavailable at official stockists, so if your thinking of purchasing one @$100, then be prepared to be disappointed, it will be second hand and not new and most likely a waste of money...

It looks like the QY6-0080 printhead is still available from several European suppliers. For instance CRC Tasktron, but they don't ship outside UK. C1 supplies from Germany also has them but it looks like they don't ship outside Europe, and here is a Danish Supplier that claims to have 50+ in stock. The price DKK 572.85 approximately equals USD 88. And in France there are 100+ in stock.

In the US the best supplier of Canon spare parts is often Canon USA. See the paragraph about service parts. So @russell have you tried contacting them?
