iP7250 patchy unreadable text

2 full new cartridges, others 50% full, all Jet Tecs which I've been using with no problems until today .

Example

What is the problem and how do I clear it?

Looks like ink starvation, usually due to poor ink flow from the cartridge(s).

• What are the two new cartridges?
• How old are the 50% cartridges?
• When was the last time you printed that used the pigment black cartridge or all cartridges?
• Do you refill or are these all store bought, use-once-only cartridges?
• Any problems noted before?
• Are you sure there is nothing preventing the air intake on the top of the cartridge or ink inside the air maze/tube inside the cartridge?

1) Print a nozzle check, crop so only the printed area is saved, and post here.
2) Since the cartridge is the usual culprit, replace the suspect cartridge(s) with new OEM or known working ones.

Nope, I reckon it’s an electrical problem with the pigment black, maybe the head took a disliking to the 3rd party inks...

Post a nozzle check please...

Looks like it but also you can see the typical flare (<) pattern of ink starvation and is why I started with that possibility. As you repeated, a nozzle check will be helpful.

Looks like PH problem. Use the usual cleaning methods Removing the PH and give it a good flush is your best bet. Hot water works best IMO. If no success just buy another printer. Nothing can compare with the IP7250 for value. Refillable ARC carts will save you a fortune. Been using my IP7250 with ARC carts for 3 years with no problems.

IMO, incorrect refilling causes more problems than ink quality. Ink starvation will kill your PH. With a printer costing less than £50, a new printer costs less than a PH replacement. Good quality inks like OCP, Inkjet or from Octoinkjet are good if you want quality photo prints but if you just want basic prints then go for the generic inks.

I really don't think that ink quality is the real problem with modern day PH problems but why buy inferior ink if you want to print photos and good quality reproductions.

Professional photographers will probably have a different view and my comments are squarely aimed at those of us who use printers for our own hobby

@wilko, I will have to question your wisdom and advice about the use of generic inks in general.

Canon print heads need a special Water/Solvent formulation that generic or universal inks can’t provide, and the use of these types of poor quality products will end the life of a print head very quickly, properly formulated dye ink is more than just coloured water...

I am not a Professional photographer, merely someone who cares enough about prolonging the life of everyone’s printer, by setting out refill standards that should never be crossed...
