Hi guys,
With the recommendations to "print often" I have been doing so regardless.
The printer is only a few months old, but the past few days I have noticed that it is starting to "creek" when printing, exactly the same way my ix6550 did after years of use.
I also notice the exact black "mess" inside the printer and the exact same black smudge on the edge/corner of my prints.

Attached are what I am talking about.

A) How should I proceed to clean? Wet wipes? Just the white "plastic"? What else?

B) How do I avoid, or at least minimize this reoccurring in the future?

I specifically do one thing different to what I usually did with the ix6500, and that is to print not full borderless because of this exact same scenario, yet the exact scenario seems to be taking place.

As always, THANK YOU!!!

You probably only need to clean your parking station area, and give the underside of the print head a quick wipe of a cloth while you’re at it...

Thanks, how do I get access to "parking station", manually move print head over while printer is off, or like when we swap out ink cartridges, wait for the print head to move over when lid is opened? Likewise for/when removing print head in order to clean?

Hopefully none of this requires pulling the power cable?

But how/when to detach the Print Head?
We usually pull the plug when we do so to unclog/clean it, but in this instance? Please give me specifics.

…Benefits of pulling plug would be no rush to get it all done as soon as possible before the whole mechanism goes back to its 'parking station'

Downside would be of course our notorious [automatic, out of our hands] purge when we switch back on printer.

Is it OK to forcefully slide the Print Head over while power off (but still plugged in to mains supply)?

No you can’t, it won’t let you, no matter how much force you apply, the print head gets locked onto the parking station, it sits on it, and the only way is to power off the printer with the head in the middle, sorry...

If your using your machine regularity, it wouldn’t do any harm to clean the parking station and surrounding area every 6 weeks or so...

There's also a safety issue with unplugging the printer. Canon printers have a nasty habit of deciding to "go home" when your hands are in there...

Been unplugged for over 24 hours now. Waited until it was in the center then realized I could/had to slide it all the way over to the left. With a torch (flashlight) I wiped up as much as I could. Prior to doing so, ran a Nozzle Check for the first time since setting it up a few months ago. Am pleased to say it came out perfect!

Upon googling it appears many others have the same issue. Strange why it's always the Black Ink??

Canon forums are hilarious, 'Expert Technician' replied to someone "I don't know what the issue is, please tell us your Operating System, etc and call Customer Service Support on 1800-yadda yadda). Whatever you do, never, NEVER *bolded* use 3rd party ink. "

The reply was something like "no, I never said I used 3rd party ink and for an 'Expert Technician' you are useless. "

I’m glad you got it sorted, but don’t leave your print head in the middle of the carriageway for any longer then you have too, that can cause some of the nozzles to dry out and clog, the head need to be back sitting on the parking station ASAP.

Its not just the black that’s causing this issue, when the other colours are mixed together they also make up a black colour...
These so called Expert Technicians are mostly Muppets...
