Epson 3880. Canon Pro 9000,
Nothing from the older printers can be used, Canon have even changed the darn ink set slightly, and worse these newer desktop printers only come with start-up cartridges containing about 7 ml of ink plus the chips on these OEM cartridges CAN’T be reset. :(

Another tale of woe is that the OEM cartridges are a bitch to refill so you have to use 3rd party refillable cartridges if you don’t want to be robbed buying OEM ink all of the time, so getting a new print head is starting to look a bit more favourable isn’t it.
A cheaper option might be to look at getting a Pro 100 printer for $99 after rebate.. :woot

The Pro 100 is selling here for A$900 odd, no rebate, given that we are THE lucky country???, Who here would want to be the next victim of fiscal abuse by FAT corporations. Sheesh!!

Aus eBay is offering the 9500 II at A$1200:ya

The Pro 9500 is the one I’d go for every time but I would have to think twice at 1200 bucks !:ep

So I have PGI-225/CLI-226 Cartridges and my new printer uses
PGI-250XL & CLI-251XL
. Can I swap chips and use PGI-225/CLI-226 . I understand that the factory cartridges can't used. What is a resetter and how can I acquire one.

Hi Island man, you are perfectly right, these two types of cartridges are the same and it’s only the chips that are different.

If you intend to refill then OEM cartridges are the best and won’t let you down, but refilling of aftermarket cartridges is a real no, no.

A standard chip resetter is required to reset the chips on all your cartridges, otherwise they will not work properly for you, this is a CLI-8 resetter and all resetters look much the same but you must have a dedicated one for your type of cartridge.

This is how to swap the chips easily...

No..
If you’re now using the 250/251 XL carts then the answer is no, the chips won’t fit or work, but worse you would also destroy the existing on-board chips, if you try.

What you need is to get a redsetter for your new chips and then you can refill these XL cartridges without any trouble...

I agree. Canon OEM cartridges are a better build quality than aftermarket cartridges, for single use or refillable with ARC chips. If you refill the OEM cartridges a resetter is a must have IMO. Disabling the ink level indication and guessing the remaining ink level in the opaque cartridges is not a good idea I think.

I have experienced both ink starvation and leaking with a set of PGI-550/CLI-551 aftermarket refillable cartridges with ARC chips. The ink level indication also came out of sync with the actual ink content remaining in the cartridge, making periodic inspection and occasionally topping up the cartridges necessary, even if the chip indicated sufficient ink was remaining in the cartridge.
