Why i can't put a single cartridge in my printer?

I don't know why i can't put a single EPSON T087920 Orange Ink Cartridge in my Epson
CX9400Fax?when i put in all four cartridges together,it seems fine.


What's going on with this? can you give me a suggestion?

The printer need all cartridges in the printer to print because they have special chips and it's to prevent the printheads from running dry since the purge unit will empty all colors even if only one is clogged so you'll end up draining some ink from all cartridges on a cleaning or priming cycle, so every cartridge will nedd to be in there.
