OK Bernard, that’s not bad odds at all, at least now you have two good working heads and you can get back to using your printers, could you post a link to the sellers please.

Look on the bright side, all 4 could have been damage...

You are right
it's better to look the half full glass than the half empty glass.

Hello all

some more news about heads

In my previous post I was half :half (remember the glass :))

I bought 4 heads, 2 where good and I had to send back 2 to China.

What I did:
I negociated with chinese seller saying
look
I need 4 new heads
1) could you refund 2 non working now
2) could you pay the return shipping cost
3) do you agree that I wait to test the 4 new heads and I will send back only in one shipment
all non working heads

1) agreed
2) he propose to share 2/3 for him 1/3 for me, I accepted
3) agreed

So I received 4 new heads
2 where OK
1 has one missing dot in black (I accepted it)
1 has no color at all

I returned 3 non working heads in one shipment.

I finally get 5 working heads at around 32 $ each.
That is not too bad.

By the way, I changed the way to prepare heads for storage:

1) 5 mm distilled water 2 hours (empty black ink main cartridge and part of color inks)
2) put five pipes upon. Using syringe, I first blow air slowly in each tank, moving ink to absorbing tissue
3) then put magic mixture into pipes, then, using syringe, I push magic mixture into tanks with air, until output is completly colorless
Then close the bag.

Hope it may help others

The seller is jk_parts

As your experience demonstrates again to those following this saga of capitalism in China, there is yet to be found "new" print heads out of China for our older, out of manufacture machines. "New" print heads do not have anywhere near the failure rate you, and others, have experienced. Either these sellers are completely duped by their suppliers as to what they are claiming or they are flat out lying when they claim "new".

Consider your self lucky, Bernard.

Agreed.

However I don't think the Chinese "capitalist's" are any worse that our homegrown versions. It is just that our guy's have to work within the controls that society has found necessary to impose on their activities. Took us many generations to reach our current state. Arguably the EU is ahead of North America in these consumer protections laws. I say this as a confirmed FREE ENTERPRISER (Prefer that term to CAPITALIST)

Side story: Few months ago nearly purchased on eBay a replacement print-head for my workhorse MX 870 from a US vendor in California. Upon carefully re-reading his advert and meticulously parsing every word of his advert, it seemed he was really selling a repackaged, and possibly reconditioned print-head. NOT A GENUINE CANON NEW IN BOX PRINT-HEAD. Although that was the inference in his heading. His response to my query on this matter was "It is exactly as my advertisement".

Which, I think, confirmed my suspicions.

Buyer beware is doubly valid when dealing with international flea-markets.

Just sayin'
