When no ink in 1 colour cartridge, the printer refuses to print event in B&W. This is creasy

It is normal for inkjet printers, not only Epson but other brands as well, to refuse printing if one or more cartridges are empty. This is to protect the printhead that could be damaged by attempting to print without ink.
