Vent hole Maze

Hi All,

What is the purpose of the vent hole maze on top of the ink cartridge?
I have a canon mx882, sometimes I overfill and ink flow out of the vent.

Can I safely remove the tape on top of the vent?
If not, should I remove the tape, clean it up, and then re-tape the top?

To reduce evaporation.
Don't do that.

Yes. It won't explode or catch fire, so it's safe. But the maze will not retard evaporation any more.
Yes, you should either leave it on or replace it.
