I have a Canon MP600, and was wondering how safe it is to use remanufactured ink cartridge? Is it safe to use any non-official/original Canon cartridge? Does it clog the ink jet head using the remanufactured cartridge long terms?
ChiowD, there is a difference between remanufactured and compatible cartridges. The remanufactured cartridges for this printer are OEM Canon that have been refilled, and the chip on them has been reset to retain all OEM information (ie. ink level). The compatible cartridges, are made by another company (not Canon) are filled and have no chip included. You have to remove the original Canon chip, and attach it to the compatible cartridge in order to use it. The ink level will have to be disabled in order to print.
Also, as for it being safe to use anything other than Original Canon ink? Yes it is, but you must be sure the ink is of the highest quality, there are some bad inks out there, and those will without a doubt ruin a print head.
I have used the True Star brand for the Remanufactured cartridges with reset chip, with excellent results. The best refill inks are " American Inkjet, OPC, Image Specialist, Lyson" there are a few more that other forum users may add to the list for you. As for Compatible cartridges, these I have heard are of good quality" G&G, MMC " again other forum users may add to this list.
