This a very good deal if you can utilize "store pickup" and circumvent shippings charges.
With shipping, the Costco deal (if it's still on) is better.

If you are near a larger city keep your eyes open for deals on Craigslist. In the last month I have picked up (on the Philadelphia, PA list) both a brand new, unused, still sealed printhead ip4200 and ip4500. The ip4200 had been bought as a spare but never needed - he decided to part with it for $35. He had used the inks but gave me a complete set of empties. The ip4500 was gotten in a camera deal. The owner decided she didn't want it and offered it to two friends - neither wanted it. I grabbed it for only a few dollars more than a set of the five Canon OEM inks at Costco. A few days ago another unopened ip4500 showed up - was part of a computer deal. Almost went after it but decided how many printers can one need. There was also a posting for a slightly used ip4300 that I passed on when the first ip4500 became listed.
Keep your eyes open - there are still some good deals out there. A lot of ip4500s seem to have been sold in camera and computer packages.

If you can't find a CLI-8 printer, consider the Canon MX850 multifunctional. It matches the ip4500 speed, uses the same cartridges, but can be used as a photocopier and a scanner with an auto duplex document feeder.

Canon has not phased this one out probably because the higher yield of the CLI-8/PGI-5BK cartridges is necessary in such a heavy duty machine.

I considered the MX850 as a spare to my current MP830. The better scanner on the MP830 (CCD scanner vs CIS scanner) tipped the balance for me and I purchased a refurbished MP830 from Buy.com for $85 w/ shipping included (PayPal had a 15% cash back at the time, otherwise the price would be the still current $100.)

Received the printer 4 days after ordering free standard shipping, one day before Christmas. That's good service!

If there were no MP830's available then I would have either bought a full price MX850 or one of the MP610's for $50 at Fry's. Looked on local Craigslist and no Canon heaven advertised.
