Some time ago one of the photography magazines in the UK gave a link to a (free) test photograph containing a wide range of colours that could be downloaded and printed out so a comparison could be made against the monitor picture & printed photograph.
True you could use photographs taken yourself but this particular one had a considerable range of colours, does anyone know of any links to anything like this ?
I Can't justify the cost of a colour calibrator for my monitor.

Unless you are sure of your printer's capability to print the "test print" out accurately (think correct and tested printer profile) there is no way you can be sure that you are setting the monitor up correctly. Somewhere there has to be a standard and a print file isn't it. If you can't afford a hardware profiler for your monitor, try some of the software available for monitor profiling. Some are free, but software (eyeballing) profiling is only so good. I finally broke down and bought Xrite I1. Does a great job and now I can correctly see/compare what my printing is outputting.
