been a while, seems to be less activity on printerknowledge.com, so i thought i'd share some Canon longevity/quality numbers.

been refilling since 12/2007, like 6.5 years, Canon carts, hobbicolors/OCP ink, german method, squeeze bottles. here are the numbers:

PRINTER INFO:
- first MP830 died at 22,000 pages, logic board failure
- second MP830 is at 53,000 pages, had one waste pad change, now at 42% of second set
- on fourth print head spread over the 2 printers and 75,000 pages

CARTRIDGE INFO:
- CLI8-B: 55 refills, original ink cart
- CLI8-M: 88 refills, original ink cart
- CLI8-Y: 78 refills, on second cart
- CLI8-C: 83 refills, on second cart

- PGI5-BK: 227 refills, on fifth PGI-BK cart
- had one PGI5-BK cart last 78 refills
- current PGI5-BK cart has 128 refills

531 refills over 6.5 years.

build quality on this generation of canon products amaze me, they just keep going and going.

After about 6 years the scanner device stopped working on my MP830. Printing was still perfect on it's third print head. Now using a perfect refurbished MP830 I picked up for a song a few years ago. Even an unopened, never used OEM PGI-8 Pigment Black cartridge I had stored (forgot about!) for several years worked like a charm

I :love my MP830.

I use a Canon MX7600 for a small business since 2008.
Based on paper and ink bills about 10K pages.
Started to like it and found this forum when solving problems.
Bought a backup (apparently less used) for 10 EUR.
Got a Pro 9500 (same cartridges) from my son and converted the whole to I.S. ink.
I never found the MX7600 expensive on ink even with Canon cartridges, but you must be a rich man to run a Pro 9500 with them.
Well, I have a new hobby with refilling :)
