Saving a canon pro 10 printer, one day at a time.

I just want to. It's both to keep the "waste tank" clean (canon should be hanged for handling waste ink like that !) and to monitor how the printer waste it's ink. I'll also put one on a pro-1 and try to revive it but i have to flush the printhead and having 150ml of ink down the drain makes me sick. So not sure how i'll proceed

Anyway, it will make you sick when you see "how the printer waste it's ink", so don't do it.

Use the printer for photos, posters, booklets or whatever enjoyable project.

Regarding inks, octoink.co.uk is IMO the best 3th party solution in Europe, for good PBK adherence on glossy photo paper you should buy a large format carts (as PFI106PBK 130ml).
PFI Red is technically OK too but slightly different color than PRO-10 and PRO-1. 3th party Red and Magenta are the most clog sensible inks, clean your cartridges before refilling and watch your nozzle checks.
As you observed yourself, 3th party CO is not on the same level as the original (the only perfect one came from Precision Colors), I buy PFI1000CO or PFI1300CO now).
All other octoink colors are 100% OK, so this reduces your average ink cost.

All this applies to glossy photo prints, when you print on matte, poster or office paper any ink will do.

Thanks for those valuables informations ! oddly enough i don't even enjoy printing that much. i simply enjoy watching these machines at works and understanding what's going on. I salvaged enough Canon genuine ink from a Pro-1 printer to feed 2 set of PGI-72, it'll do for a bit. Once the potty is installed i'll try investigating that 120-240-480h intervals of canon's auto cleaning, checking how much ink is sank during printhead cleaning so people i would know when it's better to put the printer to sleep for a long period of time. I guess it's rather quick considering how a single head cleaning cycle recovered this printer from a 2 years deep sleep state !

I might try to start à Etsy store for printing posters but i got banned right away because i was using a VPN while making my account so... not that i planned to make any sales anyway ^^

Very sorry to bother you all .
I am struggling with a Pro-10. Canon have "decided" that I have printed enough and the printer has stopped with the carriage locked and hidden inside. I have managed to dismantle the covers (from an amazing post on this site !) and also released the carriage by twiddling one of the white cogs. Still dead ! Needs a good clean though.
I have ordered some new print overflow pads for the base (but not sure if i have the nerve to dismantle further yet !) and a new print head. From my research it appears that the waste pads are "full" so I need to rest the "counter" Can you point me in the right direction for the Service SW ? ... any advice gratefully received. Buying a new printer seems an awful waste.

Sorry i haven't had to dig for the service tools of this printer yet but i'm sure other will answer. Also interested in it anyway ! Gonna need it at one point ir another

Are you sure that the waste ink pads are full ?.
If this were the case, the machine would either display a message on the computer’s screen telling you so or else would flash the printer alarm led alternatively in green/yellow seven times. After a short pause, the flashing cycle repeats itself time and time again.
If your Pro10 has none of those “symptoms” then the problem is not this.

Error B200 has nothing to do with the waste inkpad counter.

I strongly advise you NOT to dismantle the printer in order to replace the pads, unless you’re a very experienced user. It’s not only a really messy job but the chances of ending with a heavy and expensive paper weight are high, Certainly I wouldn’t dare to do it myself.

As for resetting the counter, yes there’re software tools out there. I downloaded ( and paid ) version ST503 to reset the counter of my Maxify MB5150. Beware, there’re fake software tools that you can download for free, but won’t work at all. Also, you need a version that supports your printer ( not sure which one is for the Pro10 ). If you use the wrong version, service mode will be blocked and the inkpad counter can’t be reset any more.

Here is a service tool that supports the Pro 10. You find no free downloads of the newer service tools and as mentioned by @Artur5 the use of a too old (too low version number) will block access to service mode.

Do you know how the license system works ? It tells that it's for one computer but support windows reinstallation. So bound to a component's signature somehow ? Might consider it for my pro10s but i don't trust that kind of dodgy software providers and never install that kind of stuff on my main PC
