Hi,

I have just aquired an old second-hand Lexmark X4550. At the moment absolutely nothing prints out, heads move back on forth but not a drop of ink on the paper. Have done a few head cleans but test print still doesn't print anything. Status screen shows that both black and colour cartridges have 30% ink remaining.

However both cartridges feel quite light like there is not much ink in them.

Question is would it work if I refilled these cartridges with some Canon UW8/PMT-BK bottled inks that I have around?

Some Lexmark cartridges are the return program type, that must be returned to Lexmark after use. In case the user should "forget" to return the cartridges, the chips render the cartridges useless once they register empty.

But as your cartridges register 30% ink remaining, I think you can refill them. I think that your refill ink for Canon will work, but maybe colours will be off, so the printer will be more suitable for plain paper documents than for photos.
