So the other day I purchased a large amount of non-HP cartridges. Everything was working fine until I tried to replace my yellow cartridge. The printer said it did not recognize it and so further printing was disabled until I installed an HP yellow cartridge. Later, this same thing happened again. Each time I tried to install the non-HP yellow cartridge several times with no luck. I put these two cartridges aside.
Later, after purchasing some standard HP cartridges, an idea occurred to me.
What if I tried to re-install one of the non-HP supposedly "bad" yellow cartridges in conjunction with a standard HP black cartridge?
Voila! The cartridge was now recognized and I successfully printed with it.
Did the same thing with the other "bad" cartridge. Installed it at the same time as an HP cartridge.
Voila! Printing happily again.
So what does this indicate? Perhaps that HP has a "random generator" that occasionally "doesn't recognize" a non-HP cartridge, but this code is disabled if one of the new cartridges is an HP cartridge.
Has this issue been discovered before and/or what are peoples thoughts on this? Is this even legal?
