When the issue regarding the CLI-42 ink was originally reported, it caught us completely off-guard as with everyone else. So, just to note my gratitude that the the problem, it's modus operandi and its effects were shared and reported publicly.

We immediately assumed a worst case scenario and advised all existing customers of the potential problem. At the same time we've sent out free pre-flushed CLI-8Y cartridges to replace the CLI-42's as a pro-active measure.

Naturally we discussed the issue with our German partners immediately and while they confirmed the inkset had been specifically designed for the Pro-100 they were happy to use their considerable resources and experience to reassure themselves and ourselves that nothing had slipped through.

The good news is that having waited patiently for results, we have now confirmed our supplied CLI-42 Yellow ink does not combine poorly with the CLI-42Y.

So, just to confirm the OctoInkjet inkset is not affected and can be used in a virgin OEM CLI-42 cartridges that have not been flushed.

That last qualifier is telling because it seems likely that the pre-existing advice regarding flushing of cartridge will need to be rethought given the observed effect that mixing water with the Yellow OEM has. There's a serious question as to whether other new inks will make the use of a specifically formulated flushing solution necessary.

So with that said, can I come out from the chair now? :hide

This is good to know. As a user of IS ink I am hoping Image Specialists will take notice of this and amend their yellow formulation to make it compatible with the Canon CLI-42 Yellow ink.

As a brief aside. I ran into the problem with the IS yellow back in September without realising its significance as the diagnosis had not yet hit the forums here.

I won't bore you with the details except to say I replaced the now defective refilled OEM yellow cartridge that seemed to be causing erratic starvation problems, with a new retail virgin OEM CLI-42 yellow cartridge. Problem immediately resolved.

I then followed a vigorous purge/clean/refill procedure on the troublesome yellow cartridge. It appeared then to work OK, and went on for several refills without any apparent problems.

However when the reports of the ongoing yellow problem surfaced on the forums here I decided to err on the side of caution, and swapped the chip to a former CLI-8 cartridge.

Hi. I just wanted to say thanks to OctoInket for the fantastic customer support that I've received.

It was nice to receive the advance warning of the potential issue via email, but to then find a letter, a copy of the applicable order details and a replacement cartridge in my letter box was a great surprise (especially considering that I don't even live in the same country).

When I ordered my ink from OctoInkjet in the UK, I did so purely on the basis of the extremely helpful and detailed responses that I received to my pre-sales questions. Having now seen that backed up with great aftersales care, I just had to send a public thanks.

So thank you :)

Craig.

P.S. I'm now on my 4th-5th refill and everything is still running great!
