What is the black object tucked under its starboard wing tip? It looks as if it has fins on it.
That's a graphic from the sailmaker.

That hen harrier in flight is a real prize winner. I have made several attempts at passing hen harriers, but no success so far, well done!!

Thanks !
I am not a very active birder, and this shot does not comply with the rules.
I try to avoid the spots where the tripods are lined up and think where I should fly as a bird.
The first shots are the most close, as soon as she sees me she stays farther away.
But I should go more often, seems you can win their confidence.
Hope to catch a male some day (next seven days only rain).

I have never seen a male hen harrier here, only females. I think the males tend to favor the more northerly parts of the UK. Here in the SW we have many migrant ducks on the Somerset Levels and the main predator is the peregrine. The predators swoop in at speed and clouds of ducks scatter in all directions. It makes it difficult, if not impossible, to pick an individual target.

Ducks are indeed not very predictable when taking off.
You have to wait until they are kind enough to fly by (with the sun in your back) or to land near you.
Good training material and beautiful colours in flight.

Most of the hen harriers here are winter guests, so it is possible the males are elsewhere.

I got a sparrow hawk that calls in several times a day to the back and front garden, it’s impossible to get a shot of this guy, (Male/Female unknown)

I have tried for about 3 weeks to get him but he’ll only land for 2 to 3 seconds on the ground, bush or tree, he is normally just a blur crossing the garden, all the birds stop feeding and go very quiet for hours afterwards.

I now have come too realised that I’ve got no chance of catching this guy, I'm just to slow.. :hu

Wigeon - seem to be the peregrine's favorite.
