I just noticed this on my ip4600. I tried When manually setting the print head alignment and used photo paper, well it turns out you'd get horizontal banding. So I adjusted for it and subsequent plain printouts get dark banding due to the paper not advancing far enough and photo prints come out with horizontal light bands. I then deduced that the alignment must be for plain paper because the printer driver must compensate for how far the paper advances for how thick it is. Thicker paper travels farther with each revolution, I guess even that has an effect on printing after all.
