Recently a troll (pre-ban) posted not too long ago asking, why I, as all powerful(?) OctoInkjet MD was not commenting on the meltdown that has been Image Specialists (lately STS) magenta. I'm pretty sure he wasn't alone although the rest of you were all far too polite to ask... Anyway, the answer was pretty simple...
Because we had absolutely no problems reported, identified or related.

That's not to say that we haven't been keeping an eye on things, nor have we just buried our heads in an imaginary pile of sand. No, we did a little digging, some testing, a little review on changes over the past year and came to the conclusion that we were not affected. Sure we've kept a weather eye on things but all publicly and privately reported issues with OctoInkjet supplied inks turns out to be age related rather than some MRSA-ink hybrid bug.

So, we've got on with the job at hand and left it at that.

But things have been getting out of hand. We're aware that customers are getting emails and other communication that misrepresent the situation for OctoInkjet customers. We're receiving queries from rightly worried customers who figuratively wonder if there really was a sniper on the grassy hill. So it's time to provide some detail for those who have wondered and worried due to our silence.

Here is what we do know.
  1. OctoInkjet customers are not affected..
  2. We've noted a downturn in our Magenta ink usage anyway mainly because of the slow switch to 550/551 cartridge set, and the Pro-100 (CLI-42) inks (none of which we supply using Image Specialists inks).
  3. Subsequently we've not been reordering in huge volumes or at high frequency.
  4. Image Specialists moved from New York state to Florida mid 2014 and any changeover like that is going to involve changes, people learning new jobs, old stock being disposed of and any number of other things that all could have meant that something could go wrong.
  5. We deliberately left a large gap between the changeover and our next subsequent order to allow any "kinks" to be ironed out as much as possible.
As for Image Specialists/STS we've kept up to date with them too. They have confirmed that they are unable to verify the problem with any of their ink stock, can't recreate the issue and critically, have no other resellers with the same problem. That said they have confirmed that alternative dye/biocide is being produced but it is a one off at this time and we agree that it's not relevant to OctoInkjets needs.

So, from OctoInkjets point of view, we've maintained a sensible approach to the issue. We already have a warranty in place and a no-nonsense reputation of dealing with a problem if one should occur. We've done what we can to minimise any fallout from the Image Specialists to STS merger and in the main it appears to have worked.

Were we lucky, possibly, but sometimes you make your own luck...

If anyone wants or needs to ask anything further then please I would prefer to deal with this matter privately either by conversation/PM or by email, but I am happy to respond here is if the point warrants it.

Thanks for listening... We now return you to our regular scheduled programming..
