Hi
After replacing the print head on my Canon i450 and using two new cartridges it would not print out black. I have replaced this before with no problems. The print head supplier suggested the problem might be with the purge mechanism. Could anyone give me any advice on this please.

1. Flood the purge pad with Windex. The purge pad is the location that the print parks the printhead.
2. Do a deep head cleaning on the black cartridge.
3. If the Windex disappears, the purge system is working. Then, repeat step 1 and 2 a few more times and run a nozzle check. Repeat step 1-3 if necessary.

If the Windex stays at the purge pad, there is a clog somewhere in the purge system. Search this forum for "purge ink" or "waste ink" on how to unclog or repair the waste ink system.

Good luck.

Many thanks, Inkjet Guru. I will try this and post my result in a few days.

Just be aware that there are two purge pads, at least for most Canon printers, a square one for the dye inks and a rectangular one for the pigment black. The rectangular one (on most Canon printers) is to the left of the square one and may be barely visible.
