I recently got into the german method for my ip4600 cause I got around to getting some long blunt needles, it seems hard to find them longer than 1.5". I'm using bottles since it let's me store and dispense my ink from the same container.

The convenience is definitely there and I think it'll let my printer last longer than top filling since I don't have to run a cleaning cycle to prevent contaminating the other colors and the cartridges don't drip so I waste less ink. I'm saving my old top fill cartridges for a printer at work that uses cli-221 carts. I'll be trading that kit for the used original color carts, I still top fill the original pigment cart because it would take a long time to force ink through the 25 gauge needles. But I'm pretty happy filling either way.

I'm in the US California too no less. And pretty close to La Verne, in Norwalk. Oh yeah and to drill the hole I simply heated a staple up with a lighter and melted a tiny hole in the cartridge, much less effort than drilling or using an awl.

What bottles do you use? Anything else needed to get the needles to fit on them?

Years ago, I bought my first refill kit from Computer Friends, Inc, which came with syringes and blunt 2" needles. You can buy them for $2.50 each at this link:

http://inkjet.cfriends.com/accessories.htm

Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Maybe they will sell you the needles by themselves.

These needles work perfectly with the small Inktec "bottles" which are actually syringes. Just attach a needle, dispense the amount you need, put the rubber plug that comes with the needle back on the needle and save it for the next time. If you have as many needles as you have types of ink, you will never have to pour ink, uncap a bottle, or anything of the sort. It's the most convenient and cleanest way to do refilling. You can buy ink in these syringes at:

for sqeeze bottles that have a luerlock top for medical needles. If you want to order them with needles, check their catalog for needle sizes and request that they substitute the size you want for the half inch long ones that they come with when you buy them with needles incluced. They will accept any medical luer lock needle. Unless you print tons of pages or photos you should just get the 2 oz. bottles. As you will see, they come 10 to a bag for $9.50 or $12.50 with needles, but the 1/2 inch ones are too short if you are using the German method of refilling. They are even too short for the top filling technique that I still use.
