Well I am sure glad I found you folks. And not a moment too soon. I'm in mourning for my deceased Canon mp780. I'm holding out faint hope that it can be salvaged someday, but for now, I need to get back to work.

I'm looking for advice regarding which Canon All-in-One to buy next. I have a sordid little love affair with Canon, since they're made locally and actually kept their tech support in the neighborhood.

But it's very important that I can refill cartridges. I'm reading all this stuff about chips, and I'm concerned that I may face some unique problems I'm unfamiliar with. (I learned to program on punch-cards.)

Please give me your recommendations - must be Canon, must be all-in-one.

THANKS!

Maureen

If you don't need the document feeder, then MP610 and MP970 are additional options. The 610 goes for about 130USD and the 970 is slightly more, if you search carefully

Another canon model may be worth looking at is MX700. It's 129USD at Amazon w/ free shipping.

I don't know how this model performs vs the 850 and 830. I do recall that one of the senior person here did not like MX700 very much [http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=2497] but in the July issue of PC World, it's rated the #1 for what that's worth. In this rating, MX7600, MX860 and MP620 came in at number 3, 5 and 6 respectively with a couple of HP models coming in at 2nd and 4th.

MX850 prints a better photo than MX700. MX700 does not have photo black ink cartridge. Therefore, the black is produced by mixing color inks.
