ever hear of a print head failing for just one color ?

i have a MP980, 6 carts, PGI220 and CLI221s. for the past few months the GRAY bands on the nozzle check have been having problems. see
http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/mp980-woes-nozzle-check-gray-ng-any-ideas.9849/#post-81380

gray bands were sometimes missing, sometime partial, sometimes fine. since all other colors were fine, i thought it was the cart, so i replaced it and had same issues even after flooding the purge pads with windex.

so, today i swapped in a new print head and got a perfect nozzle check

my old print head works great for all except for GRAY, should i try a good soak or does this sound electrical ?

any other ideas ?

J

Yes.

1) Won't hurt to try reviving the old print head, unless you create an issue with the logic board assay when re-trying the old print head. That is, if there already isn't an issue.

2) How old is the Gray ink? Could there be a contaminant?

3) No other info to add from the previous thread.

Keep the faith, brother!

maybe the old gray ink clogged up the print head

will try a good soak
