Monitor calibration

I need some help. I have recently upgraded to a flat-screen LCD monitor, and, while I am enjoying it for the most part, the colours I see on my screen are not what I am getting from the printer,

My old CRT was perfect in this regard...what I saw onscreen is what came out of my i9900 printer.

I'm not very technical...can someone walk me through in an easy manner how to do a monitor calibration and get the colours correct??

AFAIK, there is no way to properly calibrate a monitor/LCD display without using some hardware device to measure the colors being produced. Adobe gamma was an attempt at a simple software only solution, but it has largely fallen out of favor.
