What do you need:

-1 set of refillable Epson T1291-T1294 cartridges
-1 set of aftermarket T1301-T1304 cartridges (you will need the chips only, the cartridges are sponge-based ones containing el-cheapo dye ink)
-1 Epson R3000 refillable cartridge (for example Matte Black)
-1 Epson T128x/T129x/T130x resetter
-good quality pigment refill ink: I have used Image Specialists Matte Black for the T1301 text black cartridge and OCP K3 yellow and cyan + Octopus T0343 magenta (better and more vivid magenta compared to the OCP K3 magenta).

Why this mod: The refillable cartridges are only available as T1291 with a limited ink content, especially for the black cartridge. Epson T1301 black text pigment is a huge 34 ml one, containing twice as much as in the cheaper T1291 cartridge, but the refillable cartridges are all the same. So why not using a refillable one that is twice as big and the Epson R3000 refillable cartridges fits perfectly in the printer.

Remove the chips from the cartridges by using a sharp knife (pushing the chip away from the cartridge housing) and replace the refillable chips T1292-T1294 with T1302-T1304 cartridges of the cheap aftermarket chips. For the black pigment T1301, we will use a standard R3000 refillable cartridge, as this cartridge is double the size of the T129x and can hold twice as much ink.

I have tried to refill the aftermarket cartridges, but is was a complete mess and the refillable cartridges are much better and easier to handle. Have a look at the pictures: The large pigment black is the T1578 Matte Black one from my Epson R3000 and despite the T1292-T1294 label on the cartridge for the CMY colours, the ink status window says: T1301-T1304 (large XL cartridges).

Voila: now you can use high capacity T1301-T1304 refillable cartridges instead of the lower Epson T1291-T1294 ones. I have tested the reset possibility of these aftermarket chips and it was positive, but reset is best to be done when the ink level does not drop below 10 %.
