I'd like to get something that is of comparable quality and with the ability to refill ink.

Are the MG6820 or MG7720 any good?

Why don’t you forget about getting another pokey little headache and get yourself a Pro 100, this printer is in a class of its own and is very easy to refill and maintain, plus it would be far cheaper to purchase than the MG6820 or MG7720 are...

How so? The pro 100 is $300 dollars.
Canon typically discounts the price on the Pro 100 via rebates. BHPhoto and Adorama have the printer now for $130 after a $250 rebate. Who knows, the next rebate period it might be less expensive. The printer has been as low as $50 after rebate, thought that was some time ago. It is a roll of the dice.

You might find the printer for less on Craigslist.

The printer is a beast, both in size and performance. If you are looking for a printer for superb image reproduction then this is a great printer. If you need waterproof text then look elsewhere as the Pro 100 uses all water-based dye inks. Pigment black is what you want for the best text printing.

Pro 100 currently unavailable in Amazon UK, they don't know if and when it will be!
Could it be because of the updated model, the Pro-100S?

Yes, you are right, you have to be accurate !! :hide

Incidentally, what is the difference? I'm still happy with the 9000 II.

The Pro 100 S model adds improvements to WiFi, Cloud and Ethernet connectivity. Users can now print directly from Canon’s PIXMA Cloud Link or other cloud storage services or use Wi-Fi, Ethernet, PictBridge for direct printing from cameras and smart devices.

All this Wi-Fi stuff is just folly to me because I’m sticking with cable, its less likely to cause any problems and is far more reliable, I have never used the PictBridge either.

I have the i9950 which is the older model to the Pro 100 and Pro 9000, it prints basically the same with the added advantage of having no pesky chips to worry about...

Thanks for that Brian, I had a quick look but did not spot the significance of the S. It does not appeal to me either, I prefer cable. Wireless links are all open to interception and interference.

The UK prices look as high as ever, compared with the USA.
