Hello everybody, my Officejet 100 is giving me trouble. Can you please have a look at the following picture and help my identify the red-circled parts? They are two plastic sheets which have a transparent top and a non/semi transparent bottom half. I think these are part of a paper-sensing mechanism (how does it work)?

The other info I am looking for is that gear I marked with a red "1". It just sits there in the air and has no contact to any other gear. As this gear is supposed to drive the first paper feed mechnism (?) I wonder if my printer has some missing parts. On this problem, what I would really love to have is a photo of a working Officejet 100 that shows this area, so I can compare if my mechanism is faulty.

Maybe some of you can help me with this, and I thank everbody who does in advance very much.

Greetings, Michael

Hi Michael and welcome, I know very little or nothing about HP printers so I can’t help you with your first query, but that gear marked (1) yes you are correct it is used for paper feed, it moves and engages the other gears when it’s time to commence printing...

Hello! The gear "1" is a integral part of that horizontal shaft that goes to the right with the big grey rubber rollers. To make this shaft/rollers rotate, the gear "1" somehow must turned. But it floats in the air and has no vertical play at all (can't engage the other gears). So the other gears must raise up I guess, but the gears straight below it appear to be stationary as well - when i push down on them with a stick, I cannot feel any vertical play at all. That confuses me and leads to the suspicion of a lost "middle" gear somehow. You think those other gears will eventually raise up? I cannot test paper feed without having both ink cartriges installed it seems, which is making this more complicated ;)

Problem solved. The lower gears raised up eventually.
