Long lag before pinter prints

I have a Mac mini M4 pro running the latest update of Tahoe. I have two printers connected by USB, a venerable old Brother HL 2130 laser, still going strong, and a brand new Canon G600, with which I am very pleased. I've had a lot of trouble with network connection on Tahoe, so am using USB. The problem I have is that both printers will work but it takes over three minutes for them to do so. When I use Screen Share and work from my wife's old Mac mini running Sequoia, they both work instantly.

What is causing the three minute delay on my M4 Mac mini?

One difference in that setup is that each of your computers uses its own local print driver. I would check in System Settings: System Settings → Printers & Scanners, select the printer, and see what it says for Kind or Use. I bet hers is different than yours. I think that would be a good starting point.

You could also reinstall your print driver. I don't know what you are printing yet, but for generic printing, you could use Apple AirPrint, which often works well. If you need the special features in a printer (e.g. photo printing) I would not recommend Air Print.

Lastly, are you printing the same file on both. I have had problems in the past printing PDFs and that got fixed when I used the option to Print As Image which forces a rasterization before sending down the printer data path.

I have the up-to-date driver for the Brother Laser HL2130, and I've checked on the Canon website and there is no driver for the G600 for the Mac (there is for Windows) - they say that you must use air print. Unfortunately with the G600 I will have to use air print for photos. However, the reproduction is excellent - no problem there.

I've done a couple of test runs using my Mac Mini M4 on Tahoe and my wife's older Mini running Sequoia with various documents including PDF's. No problem with any of them on either Mini - just that my M4 Mini takes three minutes and my wife's is instant.

I have done a bit of work on Reddit and there is a suggestion that the new security systems in place on Tahoe are doing this, even though I'm using USB. Really weird - I can't get to the bottom of it at all. I'm hoping the forthcoming OS will solve the problem. I have tried carrying out a clean install and migrating my files back into the M4, but no joy there either. I think I may have run out of options. fortunately my wife is happy for me to use her Mini with Sequoia via Screen Share.
