I'm refilling CLI-8 and PGI-BK5 cartidges for my MP780.I plan to eventually go to an ip4200.Ibought some empty CLI8 and ended up with extra magenta and cyan(i.e. too few yellow and black).

The question is whether I need full sets of the chipped cartridges?Or can,for example,a cyan chipped-cartridge be filled with yellow ink and used in the yellow slot on the ip4200?Thanks!

Avolanche,

NO ! The chip on the cartridge is set for the color it goes with. You cannot use the cart in another color's slot.

Better get some more carts of whatever colors you are short.
