Where did you manage to get a RIP driver for your ip1200? I bought one for an Epson850 a long time ago but the printer needed a lot more Ram installed to use it, the ram chip cost more than twice the cost of the printer so I ended that idea..

Well I used TurboPrint http://www.turboprint.info It's a RIP driver for Linux also known as PrintFab for Mac OS X.
Since Mac OS X is based on linux the makers of RIP do not have windows version

I used Vmware to install unbuntu, then you need to install a normal printer driver for linux for your printer (I could not get the usb port for my printer installed and working otherwise), after that just add this printer to TurboPrint and it takes over the control.

The nice thing is ink bleed control before you make a profile for your printer.

If there would be a way to make canon printer print longer than 43cm that would be awesome, but it seems only to be available for epson printers.

I have been using TurboPrint (under Linux) for nearly a year. Strictly speaking, the Canon driver (under Windows) is also a RIP, albeit less flexible. Neither of them are as featured as a professionnal RIP, but TurboPrint offers much more control than the Canon driver.

I am mostly using it to get nice CMYK photo prints from a 4-ink iP3500 printer. It is a good answer to the two questions I asked in Yet another thread about black ink(s) and Canon Pixma printers.

and yes I can offer my tupence worth too that I can get more than a dozen shades of grey without the dye black..

Don't forget the nozzles for the black pigment ink are much larger than those for black dye ink. For this reason it will not print light gray as good as by dye black ink. That's 2 or 3 more steps of gray I believe.

If you are that fussy and want the full step wedge spectrum then may I suggest you consider using a laser printer? They certainly will do it in style..
