InkTec refill kits: do Canon "5" inks = Canon "6" inks?

I've been searching around for InkTec refill kits for the Canon ip4000, since InkTec got a good lightfast rating. Seems the bulk inks are expensive (tiny bottles) but perhaps I'll try the refill kits and then see. However...

I looked on the InkTec site at <http://www.inktec.com/> (a Korean company, they don't sell directly to consumers). They clearly have a kit for the BCI-3eBK pigmented black. But they don't seem to have kits or ink for the BCI-6 inks (BCI-6C, BCI-6M, BCI-6Y, BCI-6BK).

However, I found two websites selling retail that claim to have an InkTec kit for three of those inks:

<http://www.inksell.com/bki8050c.html>

<http://www.inkjetcartridge.com/bki8050c.html>

They say they're for the BCI-6 inks, but what are they really selling? The latter site has a picture you can "click to enlarge," and the picture of the box turns out to be for Canon BCI-5C/ 5M / 5Y inks. (No mention of the photo black, i.e. BCI-6Bk or equivalent.)

Question: are the Canon BCI-5 inks really the same as the Canon BCI-6 inks?

Does anybody understand how the InkTec inks correlate with the inks I'm looking for? Are any of them equivalent to the BCI-6BK photo black?

I'm sorry that I can't give the URL for the actual lists on the inktec.com site, since the site is constructed in frames (I guess), but it's not hard to find the list of kits and inks they offer.

Thanks much,
Jonas

InkTec inks are supposed to be good. Let us know how they do.

Unfortunately I'm unlikely to order them unless I can find out what the difference is between the BCI-5 series inks (which is what they're selling, I think) and the BCI-6 series inks that the ip4000 supposedly requires.

The BCI-5 series was the predecessor inks to the BCI-6 and was used only in the BJC-8200. When the S800 was released and new more light fast inkset was created. The BJC-8200 could be upgraded to work with the BCI-6 inks. You should consider using dedicated BCI-6 inks such as those sold by:

From what I have seen posted in these forums, the Inktec ink is one of the best lightfast inks of the ones tested.

Each place I have seen selling the Inktec has it labeled the same way. BCI-5,but say its for the BCI-6 printers. I'm tempted to get this ink myself as I like that it has a method for reinking the cartridges. Plus the test done in the thread linked to, show that its very good for not fading and the color match looks good to me.

The inkjetcartridge.com site seems the best deal since you can also buy just the seperate ink without the entire kit there. Along with 10% off if you click the offer on their webpage.

Hi

I look at those too, and there is an Inktec distributor in my country. I called them, and apparently talked to the boss in charge or something like it.
I asked him the same question you are posting here, and he told me that all canon inktec inks use the same color.
The variation comes in different brands like canon, epson, hp, etc. It sounded fishy, but who knows?

But he said that all inktec refills for canon use the same ink. Of course difference in dye or pigmented.

He didn't had the black kit I was looking for so I didn't gave it a shot.

I hope it helps somehow

I haven't tried the ink yet, but just received it today in the mail from inkjetcartridge.com.

The picture on their website is an older picture because the box I received has the bci-5 etc on it just like the website photo, but it also has another line beneath it which says bci-6.

I ordered the refill kits for the Canon IP4000 printer.

All of the BCI-6 cartridges use dye inks including the black. The pigment black ink goes in the larger BCI-3eBK cartridge. I hope no one puts pigment black into a BCI-6BK cartridge. It would mean instant clogging.
