IM printing pictures with an inkjet printer and then spraying them with a finishing spray to protect them but the spray is making the ink run.

The ink type and paper combination need to be considered, also what kind of spray you're using. Dye inks are generally more apt to run than pigment inks. If you're using swellable paper you need to let it completely dry before applying any sort of spray to it and generally don't do too well with water based sprays. You can tell if you're using swellable paper because it's the type that take a long time to dry and smudge easily when wet. Microporous paper should take any sprays rather well. But if you're using plain paper and dye ink then you can only use non water based sprays.
