Is there anything that can be done when you get 5 orange flashes - apart from replacing the print head?

It was printing but missing out part of the black printouts so I need a clean which didn't fix it then did a deep clean and then got the error. (I refill the print cartridges).

I tried washing out the print head with warm water and letting it dry but the error persists.

The print heads are on ebay but not sure if they are any good or not and cost £37+

Are there any new printers you can still refill the print cartridges?

@martfoxy, As great as the i865 is, unfortunately when the head goes there is no way back, the EBay heads for sale are all refurbished and are likely not to give a proper nozzle print, (Damaged), so don’t waste you time and money on them.

You can however continue to use your printer for text by setting your media selection to matte photo paper, but it will print slower and the text won’t be water proof.

When you want to print photos just change the Media to glossy paper, and it will print as normal.. I still have a 15-year-old i865 myself.. ;)

1 of the Maxify model office printers maybe worth a look, they are very easy to refill too...

You two should be ashamed of using still a Canon printer of the pre-Pixma era. If all the customers were like you Canon would have gone out of business long ago ! :D

As @The Hat says, all the units found on Ebay/Aliexpress for a reasonable price are refurbished units. Even if you’re lucky and the nozzle test is good on arrival, in my experience, those printheads don’t last long. I had two of them fail within 2-3 months.

Anyway, it seems that there’re still some genuine new printheads from reputable vendors out there, although prices seem to me rather over the top,..o_O

@martfoxy : if you could elaborate a bit ( how much you print, what kind of stuff - text, photos, etc.. ) we’d be able to advice you better.
Maxifys are tough beasts, but maybe not that cheap and rather bulky. Another option might be a G series model. Those have no cartridge/chip and are refilled simply pouring ink from a bottle into the tanks, but they aren’t heavy duty models and the ink, although cheap, is not as good as regular models (this wouldn’t matter if you refill). G series are also expensive for their specifications because Canon wants that you pay in advance what you’ll save afterwards on ink. No free lunch, as usual.
