Hello,

Apologies if this is a question asked recently, if that is the case please redirect me to those posts.

I need to buy a new printer but have a tight budget
the important perspective is cheapest to buy and to use.

Can anyone suggest;
a best buy inkjet printer
available in the UK
if the cartridges are refillable, so much the better
a source of either appropriate compatible cartridges and/or inks.

It doesn't have to have multi functions like scanner or additional features.

It would be used mainly in a home setting for:
A4 greyscale documents
some coloured image and text documents
and possibly a few photo prints (but those are not a too important).

All suggestions and comments appreciated.
Thank you.

Buy a Canon with separate cartridges .You should be able to get one for less than 90 .They are easy to refill.

Check the used printer listings in the classified ads. Get ones with real Canon cartridges and shown to be working. For used printers, go for the ones that uses the PGI-5 and CLI-8 cartridges or possibly ones that uses the BCI-3eBK and BCI-6 cartridges. If they are Canon cartridges in the printer, the printer was likely not used a lot!

Thanks for the suggestions Bertil and Mikling. I have been fortunate and bought a used Epson Stylus Photo R240 from someone locally who bought a new wireless printer.

I can't understand why they wanted to sell it, it is in practically mint condition semingly hardly been used and almost full cartridges and cheap compatible cartridges readily available or easily refilled.

wireless printing from mobile devices is a big thing with the younger set. You don't need to reveal your age but this wireless/mobile must have is somewhat lost on the older set.

I totally agree with you, I mean wireless options are just a big joke when youre only a couple of feet from your printer and dog slow too.
They are wasted on me anyway because I like to be fully wired up to get the max voltage..

Wireless printing can also be accomplished with a variety of non-wireless printers when connected by USB port to several of the new wireless routers offered today. People working on notebooks in different places around their homes on their LAN may want the flexibility of printing wirelessly. I don't need it but I can see why people would.
