Okay,
It's been a while without a single post in the Laser printer portion of the forum so I thought I'd stick some stuff in here!
I've got the HP LaserJet 4 Plus, 4+, 4P... whatever... printer and an HP Laserjet 6p.
The 4+ I got for a steal and had it refurbished at a shop (new pickup and exit rollers mostly). The 6p I got for $10 at a scout yard sale and it works great.
The 4+ is a workhorse... and weighs about as much as a horse. The thing is just built SOLID! It seems to be very easy to open and to service. All that being said, it is an older printer. A few of the things that bug me about the 4+ are:
1) Takes a LONG time to warm up.
2) Is noisy once it is on (mostly the fan)
3) Even when it is in a "resting" state it is still very loud and I'm sure it's sucking up a ton of electricity.
On the other hand the 6p is quick to warm up and quiet when not in use. It is considerably lighter and smaller. Unfortunately I don't have a clue how durable they are compared to the 4 series or how serviceable.
I stand back and say to myself... I'VE GOT WAY TOO MANY PRINTERS!
