I have the HP720 the orange led for me is the third one down indicating a faulty cartridge. Could be colour or the black one. Search for a post I did on protecting HP cartridges. Follow my instructions about placing a strip of thin plastic between the printer pins and cartridge to stop the printer pins destroying the contacts on the cartridge.

Simon is right, in XP just select add printer and I am sure your driver is there, You might need the XP disks, That is what I had to do.

I have refilled my carts dozens of times if you want advice just ask

It is mostly likely the printer is reporting an error about an ink cartridge instered in your HP printer. Look at where your print head stops when you lift the lid open. Different position it is stopped tells you which ink cartridge is having a problem.
