The purpose of this posting is to provide information so the user knows how to find a good refillable cartridge. New product needs to be tested to work before it is released for sale. That does not happen often. The non OEM cartridge manufacturers simply do not have the resource to test their products.

How to find a good refillable cartridge? This is the subject.

These are the features in a good cartridge -

Smart chip immediately recognized by the printer.

Easy refill - hopefully you don't need to remove the cartridge from the printer. Refilling is done using a syringe while the cartridge is still in the printer. A good spongless cartridge will not let ink drip and leak from the print nozzle. Epson compatible spongeless has a number of good catridges on the market. You are better off using the sponge type Canon cartridge for now.

Important -Follow instructions to install the cartridge, it should not drip if installed correctly.
( Do not run the cleaning cycle more than twice in a setting, too many cleaning cycle will cause the nozzle to drip until the inks dry out. A siphoning effect occur when the print head is in contact with the saturated waste ink pad causing drip from the nozzle. )

Auto-reset chip - The type of chip you want is the one that will reset to 90%. The 100% chip will charge the print nozzle and will waste ink everytime the chip reset.

See through design - let you see the ink level in the cartridge, but all see-through cartridge over time will not let you see an accurate level due to the color stain inside. Refill before every large print job, this will prevent the removal of the cartridge to purge the air in the cartridge once it is empty.

No sponge with flow control built in - many early no sponge cartridge has no flow control. The latest design has excellent flow control build right in the small space in the cartridge. A fine screen mash to filter the impurities to prevent clog, avoid print head clogs if you use a good quality ink. I recommend using inks made in the USA. In the end it cost you less when you follow this advise.

These are the things you want for a good refillable cartridge.

Next subject is now to clogged clean print heads.
