what is the life of a printer toner cartridge in a laser printer if left alone and not used for a long time like 2 to 4 months.

A very long time. That's one advantage of laser printers over inkjets. They can be used rarely without any complications but with inkjets, it's best to at least do a nozzle check once a week, just to make sure everything is still working.
