How Do I Refill a Canon Pixma MP450 ?

Hi- I just found this site and like most people love saving money' but I have a printer that is less than a year old and I don't want to do any damage to it. I have never refilled a printer before. I just use it from time to time and the carts lasted 4 months or so. I took them to Catridge World where they "filled" them. I put them back in and still had a low ink warning on. Now just 30 days later it is empty!-I have not used it nearly enough to be empty-I called Cartridge World and they said Cannon does this on purpose to generate sales of their ink and carts-They don't like people to re-fill them. I called Cannon and got a sales pitch-Whats the truth here and how hard is it to do-it-myself-?any info would be appreciated-thanks
