I bought an ip4200 for a family member who wanted a printer for basic text and document printing (I'm amazed Circuit City still carries these). He's using a laptop with Vista Business, and I downloaded the latest drivers off the Canon website to use for it. However, every so often, he has a problem where the printer thinks it has two magenta cartridges installed, and refuses to print. Turning the printer off and on seems to fix it temporarily. Has anyone else out there seen this problem? I'm not sure if the printer is defective, an ink tank is defective, or the driver software is the problem.

p.s. it's using the original OEM cartridges, not refilled.

Sometimes the chip on the cartridge can be defective or Canon put the wrong chip on the cartridge.

I had this occur once with a Cyan cartridge. My printer was under warranty and I called Tech Support which sent me a brand new cartridge replacement at no charge whatsoever.

If your printer is past the warranty period, purchase another cartridge and see if that takes care of the issue.
