I have a lexmark z705 and use a mac if that makes a difference.

all i want is to print in black ink and it lays a colored layer down first then black over it.
was just on with the "live" help at lexmark, it was like talking to a rock.

they kept saying take out the colored print cartridge and print black. it won't work, it prints "clear"
its not a real person but a robot i think.

if anyone can help me i would soo greatly appreciate it.
or
is there a printer i can buy that only does black printing? i don't want to spend a fortune on another printer and 200 more cartridges
thanks!

I don't have an answer to the Lexmark printer question. But if you will consider a new printer my suggestion is to consider a Canon ip3500 or ip4500. Both printers will print black at a very good resolution at a very good speed. They are excellent text printers in terms of text quality. You may want to consider a Black & White cheap laser printer too. Laser printers in general give very few problems to keep up. There are no nozzles to clog.

Isn't there an option in your printer properties to print in greyscale? This will, at least on my Canon, use only the black cartridge.

For laser, you cannot go wrong with any Brother - cheap toner and good driver support. HP has good hi-end models but their low-end models are garbage.
