Freedom method refill adapter for Brother cartridges

Looking at the video I'd imagine the reason that part is so expensive is that they've gone with a custom mould which I know is a seriously expensive proposition.

I'm not aware of any similar parts and I guess you could try and recreate something similar but at a guess you'd be looking at a luer connector and some kind of hard plastic ball, drilled and then bonded to your luer in the appropriate position.


Looking at who produce the part is seems they're more geared towards refillers with some quite serious kit and given some of the discussions recently about angled refilling, etc... it's interesting to see some of the recommendations in their videos and in their kit designs. Well worth looking at the manufacturers jero.de site...

I know this is an old thread, but anyways...

I bought a Brother DPC-J132W for day to day printing and copying (my Canon is giving me too many inkflow problems).

I also got the broluer adapter and ink from octopus.de

As soon as I refilled the cartridges first time I'll post my findings.

Well, I have refilled the LC-21 cartridges for the first time now, using the BroLuer tool. You need some force to keep the BroLuer tool tightly fitted to the cartridge's air inlet, but the T-shape of the BroLuer makes that really easy. The instruction card is very precise about the amount of ink that must be in the syringe but I found that the cartridge will stop taking ink when it's full. I did not push the plunger to force more ink into the cartridge. I believe the Brother cartridges have no sponges like Canon's does. I think the sponges are my main source of problems with the MG6150. Brother is much more simple.

About the DPC-J132W. Although the cartridges have chips, the printer does not use the chips to calculate ink levels. When I remove and reinsert a cartridge the printer will ask "Did you change <color>?" A yes will reset the ink gauge to full, a no will leave it unchanged. I think the printer only uses the chips to identify the cartridge ink color, which is nice.
The DPC-J132W is a nice little printer with 4 colors. It's cheap (69 euro's) and does not have many options (WiFi only, only manual duplex printing, only one paperfeed, no card reader, no USB stick port). But it does support Apple Airprint. It's not very fast but it will do for normal everyday color and BW printing. Scanning is ok too. It can print photo's and at the highest quality setting it's ok but nowhere near my Canon with six colors and custom made icc profiles. High quality printing takes forever, over 30 (!) minutes for 1 A4 photo. I can recommend this printer for everyday color and BW document printing and I will definitely look at the more advanced Brother models (auto duplex, printing sideways, manual A3 feed etc), in the future.
For photo printing I'm considering a separate photo printer (no all in one). Either Epson or Canon. Come to think of it, I still have a Pro9500 with a broken printhead somewhere. maybe i'll try and fix that.
