Currently I am using a Canon (ip4700 & ip 4280) for somewhere in the range of 20-25 seconds per print. I know the Artisans claim 10 seconds but have been hesitant buying one because I have $$ wrapped up in the Canons.
I have a photo booth business and people sit there and stare at the slot like they are waiting for the third 7 to come up on a slot machine.

summary: Are there any more printers that have a 10-15 second speed (with refill capabilities of course)

thanks much-Rob

My Pro9000 and MP990 both crank out borderless 4x6's in about 20 seconds... I dont think Ive seen any canons appreciably faster...

How many 4x6's do you print out at a time/session?

An Artisan + CISS might b a sexy combo if there is truly a busines need for 30 seconds --> 10 seconds.

Canon printers are in general faster. Go to Canon's support web site and compare the number of nozzles for any specific Canon model. The higher the nuzzle count the faster the printer will be. Canon Pro9000 has a huge print head. That's a lot of nozzles on it. It is really fast. Most Canon printers has 256 or 512 nozzles for each color. Some have 1024. Most Epson printers have 60 or 90. Some have more but not any where near Canon printer's nozzle count.

@LOWPG I forgot to mention that I only need it in "single use" format, no scanner/duplex etc..it's just extra weight/bulk for me.
Sessions vary from 25-300 prints depending on a few factors. I suppose my slower speed (if you can call 20 seconds slow) saves me money by slowing down the human stream.
I have read some truely terrible reviews on the R280 & Art50 concerning automatic firmware updates that make genuine Epson carts get rejected...I CAN NOT have that.

@TinHo, that's good info.

Well you might not need the multifunction (I didnt) but the refurbed MP990's at $77 was a steal..... heck- you never know when you migh need to make a copy of an invoice/check/drivers license/business card/etc when if the field so you MAY have a use once in a blue moon! :)

As a plus- my 2 MP990's came with old-style (windowed) ink tanks- so double bonus!

Hmm- just re-read that you already have an ip4700, which is likely the same exact speed.

So maybe the cheapest solution is just having another printer in parallel that you can send jobs to - I wonder if somthing like Qimage would manage queing prints across multiple printers though?
