I think what Mikling was trying to point out was that the seller on eBay obviously doesn't have a clue about what he's actually selling if he/she puts something like the above in their sales listing information.

Anyone who is serious about their ink knowledge would know that an Artisan 800 doesn't use pigment based ink... so you have to question whether the ebay seller has any idea what they are doing at all...

The Artisan 800 uses Epson Claria inks so forget about UV dye inks and look for Claria compatible inks... Personally and professional I recommend Image Specialists branded inks.. Mikling sells them from Canada and I've started selling them from the UK but obviously we are biased so look at other threads about hobbicolors, OCP, etc...

Someone else should be able to chip in with some suggestions and recommendations too..

CISS are not great with pigment inks, i.e. it will involve a lot of maintainance..

Websnail, has reported good success using a CISS inks with pigments over a period of years. The type that MIS Associates sells I believe is the one that he used but websnail could confirm this.

If you look carefully at their systems. What do you see? Pressure balanced tanks? No. Isobaric stuff? No, fancy tanks? No. the one element that stands out is that they use a simple siphon system. This is as simple as it gets folks. The key thing is that with pigments, some settling will always occur. By using a siphon system that draws up a tube, there is no settling to block the entrance of the tube. Once the ink reaches the cartridge system, operation of the printer promotes vigorous shaking and minimal settling then occurs there. Even Epson advises that all new pigment ink cartridges should be vigorously shaken prior to installation. I think we need to take that cue seriously.

There are several other benefits to this as well beyond the settling issue. One such benefit is that from time to time the user can mix each individual bottle to minimize settling. If the need exists to clean the system, cleaning the bottles is quite easy. One overlooked aspect is that these siphon systems are not affected by relative or barometric pressure as well as temperature fluctuations The one caveat to these however, is that the height of the column of ink in the bottle should be maintained within recommended heights and thus the use of wide as opposed to tall tanks are highly preferred with large capacity systems. Oh yeah, one last advantage, no leakage from the tube connections.

No I do not work or get rewarded by them but actually I am a competitor of theirs. One should look carefully and remember they have been selling such systems for around ten years. I'm sure their systems have proven their reliability.

I am not sure if shavcat89 resolved his chip issue, this post caught my interest as I purchased this CISS system for my Artisan 800 from bigdrop423. I have used it for about a month now. It works really well, the tanks have an air filter and tube that equalizes the pressure for each colour while the ink flows through tubes from the base of the unit.

So far I have used about 1/5 of the ink, topping up was no problem. The ink is dye based, (his recent listing states dye based also) not sure of the brand but the quality of my photos are fine. The printing of DVD disks is good on both printable silver surface and paper surface type disks. The only difference I have noticed from original ink, is when I print on DVD disks (title typed in black) that are rough silver but not designated to be printed. This ink does not dry like the original Epson ink did (on the rough part of the disk). There may be other differences, that I haven't noticed but I am very pleased with the output.

As to this seller, he seeks to make sure things are right - I originally purchased a set of refill cartridges from him, the chips failed. He shipped out a replacement set of chips which worked fine. Also, when I mentioned the printing of the black ink with the non print disks, I found him extremely patient and willing to replace the black cartridge. I declined as there were no problems with printing proper media and photos. I would assume his ink is more likely the issue than the cartridge. The ink dries quickly on photo or standard paper.

Anyway, I will try the ink from mikling when this gets close to running down, I hope his precision ink is closer to the original in drying as well as colour.
