I'm using a Canon Pixma IP1600, which runs on the CL-41 and PG-40 cart. This printer can function with just the color (CL-41) cart, and apparently uses all 3 colors to get the color black. I've managed to save a PG-40 cart from its demise, and now that I got 250ml of black (bulk) ink, I've plugged the cart into the printer.
Now I'm printing documents that are scanned pages (the original page/image is apparently colored, but the image I'm printing is B&W) containing mostly pictures but some text as well. I was wondering if the printer still uses the color cart to achieve the various 'shades' of a B&W image? Or does it just use the black cart and just 'spaces' the 'dots' to achieve different 'shades' of gray?
