Cartridge recognition

I cannot get HP D1470 to recognise its color 22 tricolor cartridge. Even a brand new HP cartridge is not regcognised. i have cleaned all pins and connections on both printer and cartridgs. Is there any way around this? I can print with black 21 cartridge only in place. Is it not possible to trick the printer into recognising the cartridge by blocking signal to appropriate pins? Or maybe resetting in some way. I have tried normal printer resetting procedure. Thanks for any help - HP are not answering my technical enquiry on this - does anyone know why? I am not the original purchaser though...adam
