Canon Pixma MP530 printhead removal question?

Hello,
Do the ink carts have to be removed in order to remove the Canon printhead? If so, what is the best way to store the carts while they are out? Are thy more likely to drip than when why were new?

On practically all Canon printheads you must remove the cartridge in order to remove the printhead but their are acceptions.

Carts won't drip while out of the print head (unless they drip while in the print head due to an air leak in the plug used for top filling.

You don't have to do anything special for cartridges if they are just going to be out for a few hours but for more than a day, I would seal just the outlet port.
