I just purchased a new Canon ip4500 off ebay and noticed that it makes a feint repetitive squeaking sound and wanted to know if this is normal. I've only used it once so I can't recall exactly when it happens, but it does not occur when actually printing. I first noticed it upon the initial startup and then prior to or after printing.

When i get a chance I'll pinpoint exactly when the sound occurs, but for now I thought I'd throw this out there to see if anyone knows what is happening.

The noise you describe is the purge pump in the front right hand side, my 4500 makes the same sounds. All normal just enjoy the 4500 last of Canon's good printers.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know.

I'm definitely glad I convinced my parents to buy the ip4500. It was a long wait, but worth it.

I'm also glad I found this forum otherwise I would have gone out and bought the latest model, thinking it was better.
